In my dance studio or company, the dancers may be fortunate to have the opportunity to teach few deaf and hard of hearing dancers to become involved with my company. The directors would have asked how do you teach deaf and hard of hearing dancers. First, it is important to remember that the teaching techniques that are currently use to teach hearing dancers, are similar to teaching deaf dancers except the presentation is more visual and the music is louder.
For instance, using YMCA programs, they can create a new dance class or workshop for dance movement. The programs will be open to the public and target not just for the company itself but the larger pre-professional and professional dance community in Chicago area. The choreography will provide and serve the members by allowing them to witness the dance program or performance. This will contribute a networking development of new artistic work. New artistic and choreographers have to do the rest of the work to create that passionate inner impulse as a group.
Therefore, my artistic impulse goal is to serve as an outlet for deaf dancers and other artists in order to break the cycle of frustration. To be bold new breath, sign language and impulse for passionate, hungry artists. To collaborate within our own artistic community to educate and inspire a diverse audience, introducing deaf dance in a new, fearless way.
