Born and raised in New Orleans, La. She attended University of Maryland to received her BA in Dance and MA in Performance Arts Management at Columbia College Chicago. My family is orginially from New Orleans, La and they all are into music as well as I am regardless we're deaf or hard of hearing. We always managed to learn how to understand and feel the music. I thank them each day for the positive and support about my career.
Being part of Gallaudet Dance Company, National Deaf Dance Theater, Deaf West Theater, Maryland Dance Ensemble, Malashock Dance and Company in San Diego, California, University of the Arts in Philly has shown me a way to break the ice with other dance companies. Also filmed a documentary, “Dancing With Silence” with the Columbia College Film Festival Project. And for this reason, I’m currently involved with Jump Rhythm Jazz Project Dance Company in Chicago, IL as Scholarship student. It was one of the best moves I have ever made in my whole life. They guided me to a different places where I could go further and find my dream.
I started out dancing at age 3 in New Orleans, La where all the jazz music, zydeco, and spiritual movement I've seen when growing up. Syrell's School of Dance got me started and found my calling. Jazz and hip hop was my favorite dance movement until I attended several concerts with the troupe- seen so many potential dancers performed on stage, especially Alvin Ailey Dance Company. I knew then, this is what I want to do is to perform on stage. I took several dance classes outside of Syrell's School of Dance to learn more about the techniques. NOCCA dance studio accepted me to be apart of their dance company for a short while. I enjoyed every bit of it. My distinct of dance style has changed overtime because I have taken up ballet, modern, jazz, tap and hip-hop dance movement. However, I performed and danced a lot of modern and hip-hop until I came to Chicago and learned to do jazz.
As you can see why I would like to create a dance studio for deaf and hard of hearing dancer in the future. Everyone is welcome and there is no limited to be a part of the company. Meanwhile, I continue to be a part of the dance company here in Chicago, IL with Jump Rhythm Jazz Project. I am blessed to be apart of this company and look forward to grow with the company.
Thank you.
